CHICKEN WINGS & YOU

ATLANTA TOURIST MAGAZINE SERIES

PROJECT OVERVIEW

For this project, our class created a series of how-to manuals designed to help new Atlanta residents adjust to life within the city, including the many things that make it unique and give the city its charm. My specific manual is “Chicken Wings & You,” an informative guide to chicken wings in Atlanta and what makes them such a staple in the city. I included infographics and maps using data from surveying approximately 75 real Atlantans to add credibility.

LEMON PEPPER

Lemon pepper flavoring was invented here in Atlanta, so I wanted to highlight how Atlanta natives took something from another culture and adopted it into theirs, like many other aspects of the city.

DRUMS & FLATS

This content spread gives a closeup comparison between the two different types of chicken wings, along with a smaller diagram indicated which part of the actual wing they come from.

SURVEY RESULTS

I sent out a survey to over 75 Atlantans and asked them about their wing preferences. This included gathering information on favorite flavors, dipping sauces, shape choice, and even what their favorite wing spot in Atlanta was.

Using this information, I was able to make an accurate assessment for tourists coming to Atlanta. The intent of this is to highlight some of the more popular options seen in Atlanta, again emphasizing the variety of choice that exists in all aspects of the local culture.

WING MAP

The final spread in my manual is map of Eastern Atlanta, featuring some of the city’s top wing spots. In no particular order, I used reviews and personal testimonies to find the top 5 wing spots in Atlanta. I then ranked them out 5 on three categories: flavor, texture, and service. This gives each spot its own strengths and weaknesses. The inclusion of a price per wing was also a fun way to compare each spot.
